Llama Dali (formerly You're In Uranus)
|
Llama Dali is a unique musical experience. Its members span generations and musical styles. Its music is hard to define. It can be best described as trippy blend of varying styles that are somehow fit together into a cohesive whole. This style is progressive, arty, angular driven rock conglomeration mixed with jazz drums and oscaisional techno, possible only after the digestion of various outside musical influences from a spectrum of genres. The styles that make up this mutant collective range between guitar rock thats sometimes heavy and sometimes not, jazz drumming on an electronic drum kit, surreal keyboard textures, and solid, grooving bass. The music can range from frenetic, to ethereal, psychedelic to ambient. More than one person has said that LDs music makes one feel as though theyve just stumbled into a mushroom patch on an early Pacific evening when it's really just the music that can take you places. The band is sometimes a trio, sometimes a quartet, sometimes improvisational, sometimes duet. Combining elements of improvisation and song structure that embody the moment are a part of what this band is about.
Depending
upon the band's mood, the instrumentation varies when they play as well.
On one night the entire band could utilize electronic midi instruments,
electric guitars, and samplers, on another gig it could be acoustic instruments
- mandolin, hand percussion. Llama
Dali consists of Shane Otis on guitar, vocals, samples, Jim Jeha on drums,
Carl Stanley on bass. The group comes from the San Franciscso / Berkeley
area. The Magic 8 Ball Lies was recorded in Shanes studio on his Pro Tools/Macintosh setup and Ramsa DA7 digital mixer and reflects the band's electronic sound. Shane's studio has since evolved into using Logic Pro 7 and and often upgraded Frankenstein G4 Macintosh computer. The DA-7 is still great, too. Llama Dali would like to employ visuals to a live show. Interested participants should contact Llama Dali
